GET ON-THE-AIR

FIELD DAY 2020

If you attended the May virtual club meeting, you know that ARRL Field Day is coming up at the end of June.  Field Day is the largest operating event of the year and is organized by the ARRL.  It is an opportunity to experiment, learn, and show off the capabilities of ham radio.  The York Radio Club usually hosts a club operating event the Fire Department Training Facility; however, due to COVID-19, we will not be doing that.
Instead, we are encouraging York Radio Club members to operate individually for Field Day.  The ARRL has made some key rule changes this year, given the current circumstances, that make it easier for everyone to enjoy the event and maintain physical distance.  One key rule change was that the ARRL will report an aggregate club score for all the log submissions that list a club.
This means that, even though we are apart and cannot have our normal event, we all still can work together and put up a good showing for the York Radio Club.  We want as many club members as possible to participate in Field Day individually.  Get on the air, make some contacts, submit your log, and list the York Radio Club on it.  We are putting together some resources to help everyone get on the air.  In addition to that, we will also be giving out some small awards and offering some discussion via Zoom during and after the event to encourage participation.
Field Day is a terrific opportunity to learn and grow as an operator.  If you have any questions, please reach out to me or the club through the York Radio Club Groups.io reflector.  The club is fortunate to have an experienced and knowledgeable membership, so we are here to help you enjoy Field Day.
You can find the Google Site with everything you need to know about York Radio Club Field Day here:   https://sites.google.com/view/w9yrc-fd/.  Over the next month, we will be adding more information and resources, so keep checking back as you plan your own Field Day operation.  Let me know if you have any questions.  I look forward to hearing everyone on the air!
